History

In 1927 Breuer  designed a sool for the Bauhaus refectory , and had it produced in series in the school’s wood workshop. Walter Gropius used several of them in his house in the Bauhaus campus.. Composed of two steel tubes and a wooden  seat ( later in laminate) screwed onto the frame , the stool was ( and still is) the epitome of stark , rigorous design. Not  surprisingly , this was the piece Breuer preferred among all his works. He soon adapted it, however, to make a series of low stacking tables of various dimensions.
