Most of Mart Stam's worrk focuses on building planning. In the field of design his name is linked to a few famous pieces, particularly to his invention of the cantilever chair, with its continuos tubolar metal frame exetended to form the legs.
When his studies were finished, from 1919 to 1925 Stam broadened his experience by working in various cities including Berlin, Zurich. From 1930 to 1934 he worked in Russia as an architect and after the war, contributed towards the reconstruction of Dresden. Stam's first experiences with the Bauhaus date from the 1920s when he held a series of courses there. From 1939 to 1953 he also taught at Amsterdam, Dresden and Berlin.
