Mart Stam’s fame as a designer derives almost exclusively from his invention of the chair of unparalleled lightness and semplicity. Stam first built as a prototype for his wife, using pieces of gas tubingand elbow joints. In the space of a few weeks (1926), when Stam had shown his ideas at the Stuttgart exhibition, Mies van der Rohe and Marcel Breuer came out with cantilevered chairs of their own, improving on Stam’s original idea, which included a crossbar between the front vertical. The Stam Chair version 2 is a variation that IBFOR does on the original model: it has a chromed tubular structure, with seat and back in full-grain leather without seams. The backrest of the Stam Chair version 2 IBFOR has a back tie in black or white braided rope, while the seat is hooked to the frame with black elastic tie-rods.
