Famous for its contemporary-style furniture projects, Florence Knoll has had great success thanks to its minimalist and interactive style. Born in Saginaw, Michigan in 1917, Knoll graduated from Kingswood School before studying at the Cranbrook Academy of Art. In 1941, the American designer was influenced by the leaders of the modern Bauhaus movement.
Florence Knoll firmly believed that architects should contribute with their design skills, evident in all of his projects. The American interpretation of Knoll and the minimalism created by furniture that have become icons of the design of the twentieth century.
The interior of the CBS Palace in New York City represents one of its crowning projects, and other Knoll branded furniture have been exhibited on numerous occasions at MoMA. In 2002, the American designer was awarded with the prestigious National Artistic Medal, the award for being one of the most important designers of his generation.
